Luna Park dell'Oktoberfest

The Armbrustschützenzelt having a capacity of around 7,500 seats, is one of the favoured tents of Bavarians and has been at the Oktoberfest since 1895. The German Crossbow Championships have been held here since 1935, indeed the walls are adorned with hunting trophies, deer heads, bears, wild boar and other game. You can drink Paulaner beer and the food is excellent.

AUGUSTINER-BRÄU
There are over 8,500 seats in the Augustiner. For many it is the best tent in which to spend the Oktoberfest, it is certainly distinguished from the others by more than one element; indeed it is famous for the friendliness of its maids, and as can be imagined is a quality that is quite rare in the halls, given the number of customers that must be served, and also it is the only brewery that serves beer from the traditional wooden barrels!

BRÄUROSL / PSCHORRBRÄU-FESTHALLE
This tent has 8,400 seats after the latest extension in 2010. Since 1963, this tent has been managed by the Heide family, to date by seven generations, and is named after the owner’s daughter, Herr Pschorr. The logo above the door of the tent is a painting of his daughter Rosl on her horse with a beer in her hand. The distinguishing feature of this tent is the good high spirits…and of course the Bavarian Kaiserschmarrn! The Bräurosl brewery is the Hacker-Pschorr.

FISCHER-VRONI
The Fischer-Vroni is one of the smaller tents among the 14 of the Oktoberfest, with approximately 3,800 seats. The name gives away its identity, indeed great fish dishes are served here, mackerel is the speciality, and the Steckerlfisch, cooked fish on the grill and served on a spit with 15 different kinds of fish, but it generally offers a very wide variety on its menu.

HACKER FESTZELT
The Hacker tent has 9,300 seats. The ceiling was decorated in 2004 with clouds and stars in memory of a folk tale dedicated to Aloisio, a Munich citizen who dies and goes to heaven. After a while, he gets bored and starts to complain and ruins the good humour of the others. So he is sent on a special mission to the Munich town hall but ends up in an Oktoberfest tent, the Hackerbraeu.

HIPPODROM
The Hippodrom accounts for around 4,200 seats, and so is a relatively small tent but is famous for its special atmosphere. Its fame is due to the fact that it is said to be the tent where the greatest number of “flirts” occur in the whole of the Wiesn, especially in the beautiful “champagne bar”.

LÖWENBRÄU-FESTZELT

The tent has around 5,400 seats, including the Biergarten which was added in 2006. It was one of the first tents to make an appearance at the Wiesn, but the tent was rebuilt in 2004, while maintaining the traditional setting of geranium flower boxes. It is located at the foot of the statue of Bavaria and has a hall for crossbow shooting and as a result, only half of the available space is assigned to seating.

WEINZELT
With its 2,500 seats it is considered by many visitors to be the most beautiful tent at the Oktoberfest. Unlike the other tents, wine is consumed here with a selection of more than 15 varieties of wine along with sparkling wines and champagne. For those who cannot do without, beer is also served along with Paulaner white wheat beer, but only until 9 in the evening!

Its atmosphere and décor make it special. Don’t miss the Schweinsbratwürstel. Paulaner is the beer served. A piece of Oktoberfest history. Absolutely recommended.

WIESN GUGLHUPF CAFÉ

Lost & Found
11/07/2013
Approximately 4000 items are lost and found during the Oktoberfest period each year.
There are so many that the head of the Lost and Found office has said that it is
possible to identify market trends from the lost and found items. For example in recent
years, the number of lost mobile phones has increased considerably and in particular the
number of “Apple” mobile phones.
A large part of the losses are attributable to the fairground rides… without being
noticed where objects fall out of pockets and finding them is virtually impossible.
But the rides are not the only reason given the variety of lost and found items.

The Gay side of the Oktoberfest
04/07/2013
Munich is a very “gay friendly” city and during the Oktoberfest, there is a space
reserved for gay beer lovers.
The first Sunday of the festival is dedicated to the LGBT community and for all
those wanting to party together.
The event takes place in the Bräurosl stand and after “Pride” is traditionally the
largest gay event in Munich.
For those who wish to attend other events there are many scheduled during the 17
days of the festival.

The Oktoberfest costumes

This is the traditional Bavarian costume that has inspired a real and typical style, a type of clothing line called Landhausmode, inspired by the clothing of the peasants, farmers and country people. The quality of the fabrics and the decoration symbolised the social status of those who wore it. Today, there are those who still wear this clothing even for weddings. See below a description of both versions, for the men, which included the classic shirt and Lederhosen – the leather shorts, and for the women, the inevitable Dirndl.
